New int'l airport commissioned in Turkmenistan

A new international airport was built in Turkmenabat city, the administrative center of the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The airport built by the local company "Gundogdy" is located 13 kilometers from the city in close proximity to the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway and the Ashgabat-Kerki railway.

The capacity of the complex is 500 passengers per hour. A new runway with a length of 3,800 meters long and 65 meters width is equipped with state-of-the-art ground support facilities - light-signal and meteorological systems, which allows servicing aircraft of all types.

The cargo terminal with storage facilities is designed to handle 200,000 tons of cargo per year.

"The commissioning of the new international airport in Turkmenabat will contribute to the further dynamic development of domestic aviation, the activation of mutually beneficial trade, economic and humanitarian ties, tourism, the active integration of our country into the system of world economic relations," the article reads.
