2017 became a record year for Kazakhstan in the fuel and energy sector, Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev said at a press conference in the government on January 22.

In 2018, the ministry intends to adhere to this growth rate and develop the resource potential, according to the official.

The main tool for this is the subsoil and subsoil use code, the norms of which will come into force in July 2018, he noted.

For the sphere of subsoil use, the tax policy has been improved and the new Tax Code has entered into force since January of this year, according to Bozumbayev.

“In the gas industry, an electronic trading platform is planned to be introduced to improve the pricing and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas for its realization with a phased withdrawal of the wholesale price from the state regulation,” the head of the ministry said.

The minister also commented on the issue of Astana’s gasification.

“The issue of gasification of Astana is very topical, so we will continue to work out the scheme and source of funding for gasification of the city. Negotiations with international and institutions are already underway,” he added.

In Kazakhstan, the volume of oil production in January-December 2017 amounted to 72.932 million tons, which is 11.2 percent more than in 2016, according to the statistics committee of the National Economy Ministry.

Over the past year, natural gas was produced in the amount of 52.934 billion cubic meters showing an increase of 14.1 percent compared to 2016.
