Iran turning 5 million expatriates into tourism marketers

By Trend

The Iranian government is devising incentives to turn some 5 million Iranian expatriates into marketers in the tourism sector.

The announcement was made by Vice President for Cultural Heritage, Handicraft, and Tourism Ali Asqar Moonesan during a press conference, Trend correspondent reported from the event December 10.

According to Moonesan, the government incentive will come in the form of free flight tickets for Iranian expatriates who bring a minimum of five tourists to Iran.

He said the plan has already interested many expatriates who have started referring for further details to start cooperation with the government.

Moonesan also suggested that in the budget plan for the following fiscal year (to start March 21), the government has almost tripled tolls on exiting the country.

The triple increase in the tolls is probably concerned with reducing outflow of currency from the country as well as increasing tourism incomes to fund tourism infrastructure.

According to Moonesan, the budget plan increases the share of his respective department from the exit tolls from 100,000 rials to 400,000 rials per exit, amounting to about 1.6 trillion rials (each USD worth about 420,000 rials in the free market) per year.
