In early January 2018, the Board of Directors of the World Bank (WB) will consider issuing a loan for the introduction of energy-saving technologies in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek ecponomy ministry reported.

The ministry reported that the WB has already gave permission to prepare additional funding in the amount of $200 million for the implementation of the project to increase the energy efficiency of Uzbekistan's industrial enterprises.

The additional credit line for the introduction of energy-saving technologies in industrial production is stipulated in the presidential decree "On measures to further expand financial cooperation with the World Bank."

The document approved a plan of measures for the implementation of investment projects with the participation of the World Bank in 2016-2020.

The project to increase the energy efficiency of industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan is implemented with the participation of the International Development Association (IDA).

Experts forecast that Uzbekistan will consume 71.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by 2020.

This is a quarter more than today's figure of 57.5 billion kilowatt hours, and it notes a significant growth since 2000, when the electricity consumption in Uzbekistan was estimated at 46.8 billion kilowatt hours.

Currently, the WB supports the implementation of 16 projects worth about $2 billion in Uzbekistan. These projects cover priority sectors such as agriculture and water management, energy, transport, health, education, urban development, water supply and sanitation.
