Turkey - only NATO member country really fighting IS, Erdogan says

By Trend

Turkey is the only NATO member country that is really fighting against militants of the “Islamic State” (IS) terrorist group, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, the country’s media reported on December 5.

While Turkey is fighting the IS, the US is actively arming militants of the detachments of YPG (People’s Protection Units) and PYD (Democratic Union Party), which, in fact, are the Syrian wing of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) terrorist group, Erdogan noted.

He added that the terrorists who left Syria penetrate Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula with the support of some countries.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has claimed more than 500,000 lives.

Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The “Islamic State”, the YPG and the PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
