Kazakhstan upgrades road infrastructure

Since the launch of the implementation of the state program "Nurly Zhol" in 2015-2016, 2,000 km of national roads have been constructed and reconstructed, of which 1,300 km have been put into operation, Deputy Chairman of the Kazakhstan Road Committee Amangeldi Bekov said.

The international transit corridor "Western Europe - Western China", sections Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapshagay, Kokshetau-Petropavlovsk have been fully completed.

He noted that based on the results of the work done within the program, the share of roads in good and satisfactory condition was brought to 85 percent, the length of motor roads of 1 and 2-technical categories with loading on the axis of 13 tons was brought up to 7,500 km.

In the current year, within the program the work continued on Center-South, Center-East, Beineu-Aktau, Aktobe-Atyrau, Kapshagai-Taldykorgan, Astana-Petropavlovsk and Uralsk-Kamenka with a total length of 1,200 km.

In addition, new projects have been launched, inclduing Kandyagash-Makat, Zhetybai-Zhanaozen, Kurty-Burylbaytal, Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk, Merke-Burylbaytal, Kalbatau-Maykapshagai, Usharal-Dostyk, Beyneu-Akzhigit, Taskesken-Bakhty, Osinovsky Pass, Shchuchinsk -Zerenda length of 2,500 km.

By the end of the year it is planned to conclude contracts and start preparatory work for the following projects: Aktobe-Kandyagash, Atyrau-Astrakhan, Uzynagash-Otar, Southwest bypass of Astana, Kostanay - Denisovka with a total length of 700 m.

Within the program it is planned to complete 600 km roads by late 2017, and reconstruct the Beineu-Aktau and Almaty-Taldykorgan roads.

By 2020, it is planned to build and modernize 260 road service facilities on highways of national and international importance that will comply with the National Standard. By the end of 2017, 136 roadside service facilities will be brought into compliance with the National Standard.
