Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, within his New-York visit to attend the high-level events of the United Nations, met with U.S. business circles on September 21.

Speaking at the event, Rahmon underlined Tajikistan's interest in good and comprehensive relations with the United States and called this meeting an important mean for expanding interstate economic and trade cooperation.

Referring to the legal basis for interstate relations between Tajikistan and the United States, consisting of more than 30 documents, he drew the attention of U.S. business and trade circles to financing and direct investments in the spheres of economy, trade, industry, agriculture, road transport and energy infrastructure, communications, construction, new technologies and tourism in Tajikistan.

He stressed that Tajikistan consistently takes necessary measures to further improve the investment and business climate. The government has brought the country's legislation in the trade and economic direction in line with international standards, which also provides a guarantee of investor protection.

On this basis, the international position of Tajikistan was strengthened in terms of business registration, taxation and access to credit and world trade.

Tajikistan also entered the top ten reformer countries in World Bank's "Business Promotion" rating for three times.

The Tajik side called on American businessmen to develop bilateral mutually beneficial ties, take firm steps to enter the economy of Tajikistan, contribute to the process of even greater development and expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the U.S..

At the end of the event, chairman of Tajik State Committee for Investments and State Property Management Fayziddin Kakhorzoda presented the benefits and investment and economic opportunities of Tajikistan.

The United States established diplomatic relations with Tajikistan in 1992, following its independence from the Soviet Union. The United States and Tajikistan have a broad-based relationship, cooperating in such areas as counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, non-proliferation, and regional growth and stability. In 2010, the United States and Tajikistan launched an annual bilateral consultation process to enhance cooperation.

Tajikistan has signed a trade and investment framework agreement with the United States and other Central Asian countries establishing a regional forum to discuss ways to improve investment climates and expand trade within Central Asia.
