After North Korea launched another missile over Japan reacting to the recent sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council, Japan, the United States and South Korea requested an emergency meeting of the Council.

Pyongyang fired another ballistic missile over Japan on Friday morning just days after the new sanctions resolution that was intended to force the country to halt its accelerating nuclear and missile tests.

The missile blasted off from near the Sunan International Airport north of Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, and flew about 2,300 miles directly east, flying over northern Japan and falling into the Pacific Ocean, according to the South Korean military.

In Japan, an alert was issued on television and via cellphones, warning people to take shelter inside a building or underground.

With the new missile launch, North Korea provoked the international community and defied the toughest set of sanctions ever imposed by the U.N.

Japan, the United States and South Korea requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said at an extraordinary press conference on September 15.

The minister informed that earlier he held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

“Secretary Tillerson and I concurred that in light of the fact that North Korea’s reckless action came immediately after the adoption of a UNSC resolution, it will be necessary to coordinate firmly in the international community to exert pressure in various ways, and that Japan, the United States and the ROK will strongly encourage all countries to fully implement the recently adopted UNSC resolution,” he said.

Rex Tillerson on Thursday urged China and Russia to take direct action against North Korea in response to its latest missile launch.

“China and Russia must indicate their intolerance for these reckless missile launches by taking direct actions of their own,” Tillerson said in a statement.

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously imposed a fresh set of sanctions against North Korea on September 11 over the country’s hydrogen bomb test which was conducted on September 3.

These sanctions included limits on import of crude oil and oil products, a ban on textile exports and new visas for North Korean oversees workers. However, today’s missile test showed that sanctions do not prove to be effective and international attempts to freeze Kim Jong-un’s missile program remain fruitless.
