Several Uzbek-Kazakh agreements enter into force

An agreement on interregional cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan has entered into force, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry’s press service said in a message July 17.
The document was signed on March 23, 2017 during the state visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kazakhstan.
The agreement envisages the expansion and development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries’ regions in trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, agriculture, healthcare, promotion of employment, tourism and environmental protection, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
According to the message, a protocol to the intergovernmental agreement on checkpoints at the Uzbek-Kazakh state border, which legally secures the opening of two checkpoints (Malik-Syrdarya and Okultin-Tselinniy) at the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, in connection with the resumption of the use of the road section, M-39, has also entered into force.
The protocol was signed by the parties through diplomatic channels while preparing for the state visit of Uzbekistan’s president to Kazakhstan.
As it was previously reported, the official opening ceremony of the Malik-Syrdarya and Okullin-Tselinniy checkpoints between Tashkent and Samarkand was held at the beginning of the last week.
The 25-km long M-39 road section, passing through the territory of Kazakhstan, has been closed since 2006. Its opening took place thanks to the agreement of the two countries’ leaders.
