Turkmenistan develops transport regional infrastructure

By Kamila Aliyeva

The development of the transport infrastructure of the regions in Turkmenistan is an important component of large international projects.

This activity is aimed at involving the territories in active economic, trade-economic and social-humanitarian interaction, increasing their investment potential, stimulating entrepreneurship in rural areas and industrial integration, the state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary reported

Particular attention is paid to the creation of a multimodal logistics network that optimally combines water, air, rail and road transport. A pontoon bridge across the Amu Darya connecting Khalach and Khojambaz which was commissioned few days ago is just another example.

In March, the Turkmenabat-Farab automobile and railway bridges were commissioned.

Earlier, from 2009 to 2016, automobile bridges across the Amu-Darya Atamurat-Kerkichi, Seidi-Elgik, and the railway bridge of Atamurat-Kerkichi were put into operation, the railroad from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan along the Atamurat-Ymamnazar-Akin route 88 kilometers long began operating as well.

All these projects have geopolitical, economic and social significance for the neighboring countries of Turkmenistan.

The territory of Central Asia is becoming one of the most important transport and transit nodes of world significance.

The region is called upon to play a link that integrates the natural corridor of transport communication along the lines "North-South" and "East-West", which will connect Asia and Europe with the shortest routes, and ensure the reliable and uninterrupted functioning of the entire system of trade and economic transnational cooperation.
