UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric thanked the countries that completely fulfilled their obligations on providing humanitarian support to Yemen.

This was stated at a daily briefing at the UN headquarters in New York on May 25.

Among those who made the promised contributions in support of Yemen are Azerbaijan, Russia and the United States.

Dujarric noted that the U.S. announced that it will allocate an additional $77 million to fight hunger in Yemen.

He also added that the UN is carefully studying the draft U.S. budget.

If the U.S. plans to dramatically reduce the funding of the UN, it would have a very negative impact on the work of the organization, according to Dujarric.

"I think that if the budget is adopted in its present form, the UN will simply not be able to continue the most important work in the areas of peacekeeping, development, human rights protection and humanitarian assistance around the world," he said adding that “it must go through legislative procedures and we’ll see what happens."

Dujarric recalled that the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, even before he became aware of the draft U.S. budget, stated about the need to reform the UN development system and "to try to get rid of this straightjacket of bureaucracy."

Earlier, Guterres called on all departments of the Organization to use financial resources more economically. The Secretary-General also urged to overcome the divides that still exist in the organization.

U.S. President Donald Trump also called for changes in the UN and claimed that there is a need to review funding of the international organization. Trump has long been known for criticizing United Nations, saying that this structure is not working in full force.

In December 2016, Trump referred to the UN as a "club" for people to "have a good time." As a candidate, he questioned the institution's effectiveness in dealing with international threats.

Today, the issue of increasing the effectiveness of the UN Security Council, including the use of all its statutory peacekeeping capabilities, is becoming increasingly important due to a number of international crises.
