Vietnam plans to launch cargo supplies through Kazakhstan to other Central Asian states and Europe via railways until the end of 2017, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Railways Phan Quoc Anh said during the visit to Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Railways reported.

The company further reported that it is also planned to launch direct supplies of Kazakh grain and other goods to Vietnam without transshipment in the Chinese port of Lianyungang.

The first test train on this route is expected to be launched in 2017, and later the train will run on a regular basis.

Phan Quoc Anh said that Vietnam has a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), which includes Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, facilitating the movement of goods from Vietnam through Kazakhstan to Eastern and Western Europe.

He also noted that ASEAN countries could be interested in goods transit to Europe via China and Kazakhstan.

Four major international transport corridors cross the territory of Kazakhstan, including the Northern corridor of the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), the Southern corridor of the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), Transport Corridor Europe-Caucuses-Asia (TRACECA) and the North-South.

Being situated between Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan boasts of a great transit potential, as there is no other alternatives for Asian states to link to Russia and Europe.
