Kyrgyzstan gets aid worth $9.2B since 1992

Kyrgyzstan has received assistance in the amount of $9.2 billion from donor countries since it gained independence in 1992.

Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Pankratov announced about this while addressing a meeting of SDPK faction last week.

Pankratov said that 372 loan and grant agreements have been signed from 1992 till present. Of the total volume, some $6.7 billion are loans and $2.5 billion - grants.

The major multilateral donors are the ADB, World Bank, IMF. Bilateral donor countries were China, Russia, Japan, Korea and others.

Finance Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, in turn, informed the bulk of the loans, namely 27 percent, is directed to the transport sector, while 21 percent - the energy sector.

In addition, six percent of grant revenue is allocated to the social sector, namely health and education. Also, due to the budget deficit, a significant part of the funds was directed at the development of the banking sector.

Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country, where agricultural sector dominates. Cotton, tobacco, wool, and meat are the main agricultural products.

Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov earlier noted that the real GDP growth of Kyrgyzstan will be 2.9 percent in 2017.

The prime minister noted that the risks which can affect the GDP growth in 2017 are: instability of the global economy, dependence of the economy on world prices for gold and energy resources, risks for increase of inflation due to the growth of food prices and others.

Kyrgyzstan’s budget revenues will be 126.8 billion soms, the expenditures will stand at 150.1 billion soms, while the deficit will be 23.3 billion soms, according to the country’s draft 2017 budget.
