Iran, Turkey ink deal on cooperation in banking sector

The Central Banks of Iran and Turkey signed a memorandum of
understanding to boost banking cooperation, the Central Bank of
Iran (CBI) reported on January 26.
The deal was undersigned by Mahmoud Yagoubi, deputy governor of CBI
and Mehmet Taskin, deputy executive director at Central Bank of
Turkey on the sidelines of the Iran-Turkey joint banking
committee’s first session in Tehran on January 25.
During the meeting the two parties discussed settling the obstacles
of
expanding banking ties, integrating the two countries' payment
systems
and using national currencies for bilateral trade.
The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for March with
participation of representatives from commercial banks and economic
organizations of the two countries.
Last year, Iran and Turkey signed a MoU on banking cooperation
and
agreed to setup joint banking committee.
