Iran seeks closer ties with Cyprus

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Cyprus, the countries, which share a long history of good relations, seek to further expand their cooperation.

Chairman of the chamber of representatives of Cyprus Dimitris Silluris will visit Iran on October 30, on the invitation of the speaker of Iranian parliament Ali Larijani.

The official will hold meetings with his Iranian counterpart Larijani, foreign minister Javad Zarif and the head of the Discernment Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

The countries step up relations significantly with the exchange of new ambassadors and several trips by high-profile delegates in 2014.

Moreover, the two countries signed a significantly important agreement to avoid double taxation in 2015, opening new opportunities for cooperation, as well as new outlooks for investment and trade relations between Cyprus and Iran. Also, the Cyprus–Iran Business Association was established on August 4, 2015, with a view to promote and strengthen trade relations between the two countries.

The boosting of ties was also on agenda during the recent visit of Cyprus Transport Minister Marius Diametre Tidas to Iran. Tidas, in his tour to Tehran, met with Amir Hossein Zamaninia, deputy petroleum minister for international affairs and trading and Ali Akbar Safaei head of National Iranian Tanker Company. The meetings were held with the aim of discussing prospects for future cooperation in a number of spheres, including transportation and energy sphere.
