Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan seek to end border delimitation

During a phone conversation held recently, Uzbekistan’s Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev confirmed their strong mutual interest in successful completion of joint work on the delimitation and demarcation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border that are being carried out by the two countries’ competent authorities, Uzbekistan national news agency (UzA) reported.
During the talks, held by the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, the two presidents agreed to support and promote bilateral relations at various levels with the aim to further strengthen the multifaceted and long-term relationships for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples in order to ensure stability and security in the region, said the report.
Mirziyayev and Atambayev exchanged views on the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz cooperation, highlighting the significant positive dynamics in several key areas.
As it was reported earlier, meetings of representative delegations of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan with the participation of leaders and general public of the border areas of the Fergana Valley were held in Uzbekistan’s Andijan and Kyrgyzstan’s Osh cities.
The two presidents noted that these meetings became an important step towards strengthening the centuries-old traditional ties of friendship and good-neighborliness, mutual trust and respect between the two countries’ peoples.
Total length of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border is 1378.44 kilometers. Nearly 50 sections with about 300 kilometers length haven’t been delimitated.
