SOCAR reveals gas production figures for Azerbaijan

By Aynur Karimova

Azerbaijan produced almost 19 billion cubic meters of gas since early 2015, the country's state energy company SOCAR said on October 8.

This is 20.44 billion cubic meters or 7.1 percent less compared to January-August 2014.

The country also produced some 29.62 billion cubic meters of gas in 2014 compared to 30.78 billion cubic meters in 2013.

SOCAR also reported that it produced 4.58 billion cubic meters of gas in January-August 2015, and this figure is 7.7 percent (4.96 billion cubic meters) less compared to the same period of 2014.

SOCAR produced 7.22 billion cubic meters of gas in 2014 compared to 7.31 billion cubic meters in 2013.

Earlier SOCAR Head Rovnag Abdullayev said that energy-rich Azerbaijan is capable of doubling its gas production by 2025, thanks to its rich reserves and ongoing projects.

"The Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is rich in gas condensate, and SOCAR continually seeks new methods to exploit these reserves," he noted. "There are great opportunities for bringing production volumes in Azerbaijan up to 20 billion cubic meters a year, excluding the gas injected into the reservoir in 2015, and up to 40 billion cubic meters in 2025. This will further enhance the role of Azerbaijan in the energy security of Europe."

In 2016 Azerbaijan is expected to maintain gas production volumes at the level of 2015. It is planned to produce 30 billion cubic meters of gas in 2016. Some 30.2 billion cubic meters of gas is expected to be produced in Azerbaijan in 2015.

Azerbaijan’s energy giant SOCAR is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Three production divisions, two oil refineries and one gas processing plant, an oil tanker fleet, a deep water platform fabrication yard, two trusts, one institution, and 22 subdivisions are operating as corporate entities under SOCAR.
