Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Germany will discuss the possibility of participation of German entrepreneurs in the future energy and infrastructure projects, Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry reported.

The discussions will be held at a quadrilateral energy conference with the participation of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Germany, organized by the German-Georgian society on the economy and culture and the Eastern Committee of German Economy in late 2015.

Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry said that it highly appreciates the role of this conference in the development of energy cooperation, aimed at ensuring energy security of Europe, including Germany.

“We believe that such events provide an opportunity not only for strengthening of cooperation in the energy sector, but also for regional development and cooperation,” the ministry reported.

The conference will bring together senior representatives of Germany, Turkey and Georgia, according to the message.

Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in ensuring Europe's energy security. In this regard, the country has initiated the construction of the Southern Gas Corridor, a grand project comprising the Trans-Anatolian and Trans-Adriatic natural gas pipelines.

The Southern Gas Corridor, a priority energy project for the EU, envisages the transit of gas from the Caspian Sea region to European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

This ambitious project aims to diversify the routes and sources of energy supply that will enhance Europe's energy security. The Southern Gas Corridor project will ensure Caspian gas supplies to European markets for the first time in history.

At its initial stage, the primary source of gas for the pipeline will be from Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz field. Other sources could also connect to the pipeline at a later stage.

TANAP envisages the transportation of gas of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from the Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey. TANAP’s initial capacity is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest of the volume to Europe.

Turkey will receive gas in 2018, and after TAP is constructed the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.

TAP, which envisages the transportation of gas from the second stage of development of Azerbaijan's giant Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea to the European Union countries, has already ensured its strategic role in the EU's energy security.

Recently, the TAP project, which is the western part of the Southern Gas Corridor that goes from the Greek/Turkish border to Italy through Albania, has been included in the European Commission's list of 33 priority energy security Projects of Common Interest.
