Azerbaijan's state energy giant SOCAR prepares to complete the construction of a new deep-water base No 7 in the Gunashli field, the company reported on July 21.

A support block of base designed for drilling of 20 wells, as well as the first and the second part of the carrying deck were installed and some 8,650 tons of piles was hammered, SOCAR noted.

"Currently, preparations for the assembly of modules of base are underway. After final completion of construction works, the construction of 16 modules will begin on the deck. Also, nine pipelines of oil and gas with a length of 12 kilometers will be constructed as part of the project," the company added.

Gunashli field plays an important role in the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan. The shallow part of the deposit is developed by SOCAR independently and the deep one is developed as part of the Azeri-Chirag- Gunashli block together with foreign partners.

Azerbaijan’s energy giant SOCAR is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Three production divisions, two oil refineries and one gas processing plant, an oil tanker fleet, a deep water platform fabrication yard, two trusts, one institution, and 22 subdivisions are operating as corporate entities under SOCAR.

SOCAR produced more than 8.32 million metric tons in 2014 compared to 8.31 million metric tons produced in 2013.

Over 42.4 million metric tons were produced in Azerbaijan in 2014 compared to 43.5 million metric tons produced in 2013.
