BP Azerbaijan Company is considering various options to improve its competitive edge, including elimination of irrelevant organizational problems and increasing of efficiency under the current circumstances, Tamam Bayatli, the Spokesperson of BP Azerbaijan said on December 11, commenting on the company's plans on the staff reduction voiced by Bob Dudley, BP Chief Executive Officer.

"Of course, our organization must be simpler and more rational in accordance with the requirements of the business activity development,” she told Trend . “This will ensure its competitiveness. At the same time, this will allow us to focus on the main business tasks, labor security, the reliability of our facilities and operations. Our attention will be focused on these main areas."

Bayatli went on adding that BP remains committed to its obligations as part of the projects implemented by the company in Azerbaijan and the company will continue to fulfill them.

"The projects implemented by BP in Azerbaijan are long-term and important,” she said. “The company is committed to its obligations. The company will continue fulfilling them. These projects are successfully going ahead. Afterwards, they will be implemented in accordance with the existing plans."

BP is involved in the implementation of the projects such as the development of Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of oil and gas fields, giant Shah Deniz gas condensate field, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the South Caucasus gas pipeline.

Bob Dudley said earlier that BP will spend $1 billion on making hundreds of job cuts over the next year in response to the continued slump in global oil prices.

“The cuts will unlikely affect people on the platforms,” he said. “The cuts will be made in the systems to support our operations and where BP has a significant presence - the U.S., UK, Azerbaijan and Germany.”
