SOCAR ups petroleum products' export

By Aynur Jafarova

Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR exported about 1.22 million metric tons of petroleum products from its own oil refineries in January-September 2014.

This figure exceeded 799,730 metric tons in the same period of 2013, SOCAR said.

The company exported around 1.04 million metric tons of petroleum products from its own oil refineries in 2013, compared to over 1.24 million metric tons in 2012.

Also, SOCAR exported 712,941 metric tons of diesel fuel in the reported period, and this figure was equal to 689,273 metric tons in the same period of last year.

SOCAR also exported 9,280 metric tons of vehicle fuel, 138,889 metric tons of aviation kerosene, 358,772 metric tons of vacuum gas oil and 417 metric tons of furnace oil in the reported period.

The volumes of vehicle fuel production and consumption in Azerbaijan became equal in 2013, which explains why the vehicle fuel exports are minimized.

Azerbaijan exports considerable part of its petroleum products to Georgia.

Azerbaijan's energy giant SOCAR, which is keen on expanding operations in the retail oil products market abroad, is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in the domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Currently, SOCAR works on modernization of existing processing capacities due to the increase in fuel consumption in Azerbaijan.

Oil products are produced at two oil refineries with a total capacity of 16 million metric tons of oil per year. Both oil refineries belong to SOCAR, which annually processes approximately seven million metric tons of oil, extracted from onshore and offshore fields with SOCAR's own funds.

Azerbaijan produced 3.1 million tons of main petroleum products in January-August, which was equal to over 3.43 million tons in the same period of 2013.

In 2013, Azerbaijan produced 5.09 million tons of the main petroleum products.
