SOCAR to form corporate database in 20-25 years

Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR will form the Odlar corporate database in 20-25 years given the great history of the oil and gas sector development in the country.

The news was announced by Vice President of SOCAR on Staff and Information Technology Regime Khalig Mammadov in the framework of the international conference titled 'National Databank NDR-14' held in Baku with the support of SOCAR on September 29.

He told the journalists that the formation of a corporate database started in 2008 and the results of six years of work suggest that the collection of all data could be completed in a shortest possible time.

He noted the duration of data collection is liked with the large number of fields and wells in the country, and consequently there is a large amount of information that was recorded by various methods and stored in different structures.

"We have more than 44,800 wells and all the data regarding the work of well is recorded. Additionally, data collection on exploration and other technical parameters is implemented within the framework of drilling," Mammadov said.

"The access to the database is restricted to the public, but specialists in this field have access to it," he said, noting that 130 SOCAR specialists currently have access to the database, and this list will be extended.

Azerbaijan's energy giant SOCAR, the only producer of oil products in the country includes Azneft Production Association, which runs onshore and offshore oil producing companies, Azerkimya Production Association, and Azerigas Production Association.

SOCAR, which is keen on expanding operations in the retail oil products market abroad, is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in the domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Currently, the company owns gas stations in Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Georgia and Ukraine. It has representative offices in Georgia, Turkey, Romania, Austria, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Britain, Iran, Germany and Ukraine, and trading companies in Switzerland, Singapore, Vietnam, Nigeria, and other countries.
