BP announces personnel policy plans for Azerbaijan

British BP plans to increase the number of local staff working in its structure in Azerbaijan to 90 percent by 2018, Regional President of BP in Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia Gordon Birrell said.

BP is a participant of development projects of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli, Shah Deniz gas condensate field, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and South Caucasus gas pipeline oil and gas fields block.

In an interview with "SOCAR plus", Birell noted that the company employs more than 2,900 citizens of Azerbaijan, which is more than 85 percent of the qualified staff of BP in the country.

"We intend to bring this figure to at least 90 percent by 2018, which is one of our major commitments," he said.

Earlier, the parties signed a cooperation agreement for training of the domestic workforce at Gobustan Regional Training Center, and a memorandum of understanding on a coordinated recruitment and appointment process.

The signed documents will allow further enhancing cooperation between the parties for nationalization of local human resources in demanded specialties in the oil and gas sector.

Under the first document, BP agrees to train hundreds of local young Azerbaijanis living in the settlements of Sangachal, Umid, Azimkend and Gobustan. This document will also contribute to the training of skilled workers. On the other hand, the memorandum of understanding will create a sound basis to regulate joint activities with the aim of rationally using the country's labor resources. The memorandum will allow SOCAR and BP to create a national staff database on popular specialties and rationally use the resources of this database.
