U.S. ambassador: Shah Deniz consortium’s pipeline choice to make Azerbaijan more important for Europe
Azerbaijan will become even more important for European energy security after the Shah Deniz consortium makes final decision, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar told journalists in Baku on May 22.
"Beyond opening a new pipeline, Azerbaijani gas will become more important for European energy supplies...10 bcm of gas are very important as alternative resources for Europe and there will be more gas in 2020," he said.
"There are other projects," he added. "There will be much more Azerbaijani gas. Hopefully, there will be also Turkmen gas. So, there will be a significant amount of gas coming from the Caspian region."
