Turkmenistan hosts oil and gas conference

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday appealed to the delegates of the International Conference "Turkmenistan's Oil and Gas" opened in Ashgabat. The representatives of the CIS member-states attend it.

"Holding the international conference within the approved plan of measures to implement the concept of Turkmenistan's presidency in the CIS in 2012 shows that our country has a worthy place in global energy system," the statement said.

President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that this forum is designed to demonstrate that the diversification of export routes of energy resources to different countries aims to ensure national, regional and global development, peace and security in the world.

The president said that the event will be of great importance for intensifying production of hydrocarbons in Turkmenistan, increasing the volume of oil and gas processing, developing oil and gas and chemical industries.

It is also stressed that the oil and gas industry is of great importance to accelerate the economic potential of the country, turning it into a industrially developed country.

The Turkmen oil and gas industry development program till 2030 envisages the increase in the pace of exploration work in the country, oil and gas production, delivering their products on the domestic and foreign markets.

Turkmenistan ranks second on the gas reserves in the CIS after Russia. At present, supplies are made to Russia, Iran and China.
