The US works with Azerbaijan to boost global energy security, the US ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told reporters in Baku on November 16.
"The US has been working with Azerbaijan and with other countries to boost global energy security for a long time," he said.
As President of Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev stated today in his speech, the US companies have been and are active in the development of the hydrocarbon sector and in the oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan, noted Cekuta.
"We work with Azerbaijan to boost regional, global and European energy security," added the ambassador.
Europe pins high hopes on Azerbaijan with relation to the
Southern Gas Corridor, which is one of the priority energy projects
for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian
region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.
At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2
of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as
the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other
sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.
As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, the gas will
be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South
Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans Anatolian Natural
Gas Pipeline and Trans Adriatic Pipeline.
