The East-West pipeline, the largest natural gas pipeline in Turkmenistan is planned to provide raw materials for all industrial objects that will be put into operation in the country.

The Turkmen Oil and Gas Complex reported that Turkmenneftegazstroy Gas Concern has already completed pressure testing on the 150 kilometer length Shatlikedjen Kaakha main gas pipeline. Fuel will be soon delivered to Ahal and Balkan regions of the country.

Testing in the western section of the pipeline also revealed high level of reliability. Six remaining sections of the 773 kilometer length pipeline are also prepared for durability and leak proofness.

The $2.5 billion pipeline, which reportedly has the capacity to transfer 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year is designed to deliver gas from largest deposits in Turkmenistan's eastern parts to other gas pipelines in the country, thus increasing volumes and safety of gas exports, and also serving for domestic gas supplies.

A number of gas-compressor stations, as well as other enterprises are planned to be constructed along the path of the pipeline. Galkynysh, the largest gas field of Turkmenistan is expected to serve as the main source for the pipeline. The pipeline also creates conditions for exporting Turkmen fuel to world markets in any direction.

The country ranks fourth in the world in terms of the volume of natural gas reserves, according to the BP report. For the time being, the country is able to export natural gas to China and Iran with the possibility of increasing the supply volume. This is while Russia has suspended the purchase of Turkmen gas.
