Iran warns Iraq over delayed gas debts
By Trend
A senior Iranian oil official has urged Iraq to pay off its
outstanding debts over constructing a joint gas pipeline with the
Islamic Republic.
Ali Kardor, an Iranian deputy oil minister, has said if Baghdad
fails to settle its outstanding debts, Tehran will not deliver gas
to Iraq, Mehr news agency reported.
He further added that Iran is prepared to supply its gas to the
neighboring country.
Under an existing contract, Iran is expected to export 25 million
cubic meters (mcm) of gas to Iraq per day.
The two neighboring countries also have agreed on a deal for
exporting 25 mcm of gas to Iraq’s Basra. However, no pipelines have
been laid so far for exporting gas to Basra City.
