Azerbaijan sees rise in population growth

Azerbaijan has recorded a rise in the number of population growth.

The State Statistics Committee reported that number of Azerbaijani population hit 9,747,400 as of June 2016. The figure is more by 41,800 persons or 0.4 percent from early 2016.

Some 25, 000 marriages and 5, 002 divorces were registered in the country during this period.

The density of population made 112 persons per a square meter. The ratio is 1,000 men to 1,007 women. Some 53.1 percent of population lives in cities, 46.9 percent in villages. Of the total number of the population 49.8 percent are men, while 50.2 percent women.

From January-May, 65,300 babies were born in the country. Some 53.2 percent of them are boys and 46.8 percent - girls. 11,745 of the newborns were twins, while 30 were triplets.

A total of 24,300 deaths were recorded during this period.

The country is among leading European countries in terms of natural population growth, which in turn contributes to the development of economy.

The "Azerbaijan 2020: Look into the future" Concept of Development reads that during the period covered by the concept, the country's population will increase by 1.1 per cent a year on average and is expected to total about 10.2 million in 2020.
