Azerbaijan will cooperate with Estonia and Finland to develop higher education in the country.

Azerbaijani Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov recently met with Vice Chancellor for Youth and International Relations of Estonia Madis Lepajoe in Baku to discuss the issue.

As a part of the meeting, Lepajoe said that his country, together with Finland, is designing a mutual project for the development of higher education in Azerbaijan, the education ministry reported.

He noted the similarities in educational development between the two countries and stated that the education systems of both countries faced with similar problems.

Lepajoe expressed hope for the success of the jointly sponsored project.

Mikayil Jabbarov noted the development in cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia, and touched on the Estonian experience in the field of educational reforms.

The sides also discussed issues of mutual accreditation of higher and professional educational institutions, as well as the possibility of cooperation in the field of academic mobility and improvement in the quality of education.

Jabbarov also noted that the unauthorized visit of students of the International Relations Faculty f and professors of the University of Tartu to Azerbaijani territories under occupation this May was counterproductive to the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed hope that it would not happen again.

Lepajoe expressed regret over the visit and said that the rector of the University of Tartu has sent a letter to the Azerbaijan Embassy in Estonia, in which he expressed his regret and noted that public outreach to the nation’s universities on the matter would prevent similar incidents in the future.

The education system in Finland ranks highest in the world. Estonia has also gained notoriety among its neighbors for its advanced education system.

Education acts as the generator and preserver of personal, cultural, and social values for Estonia. Estonian education is underscored by attitudes that serve as a basis for personal and collective happiness, cultural sustainability, and societal cohesion.
