Turkey’s ex –president becomes Honorary Doctor of ADA University

Abdullah Gul, the 11th president of Turkey has been presented with a diploma of an Honorary Doctor of ADA University in Baku.

Addressing the event held on April 30, Rector of ADA University Hafiz Pashayev highlighted life and activity of Abdullah Gul.

Pashayev spoke about “friendly and fraternal” relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as cooperation in the fields of science and education.

“Abdullah Gul was honored with the Honorary Doctor diploma for his efforts to maintain peace in the world and contributions to deepening Azerbaijani-Turkish friendly relations, as well as his achievements in economy,” he said.

Gul, in turn, said he is “grateful” to ADA University for the diploma. He applauded the Azerbaijani government`s attention to the development of education, AzerTac state news agency reported.

Gul was elected as the 11th president of Turkey on August 28, 2007. In 2014, with his seven-year term as president coming to an end, Gul announced that he would not stand for a second term.

Gul was among the founders of the Justice and Development Party in 2001 and served as Vice Chairman for Political and Legal Affairs. He also served as a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in both 2001 and 2002.

Founded by the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry and chartered by a presidential decree, ADA University is dedicated to training innovative global leaders and promoting useful collaborative research on diplomacy, public and international affairs, business, humanities and sciences, information technologies, and system engineering.
