Sudan reopens its embassy in Baku

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that Sudan has reopened its embassy in Azerbaijan.

A meeting with an employee of Sudan's embassy in Azerbaijan was held at the country's Foreign Ministry. During the meeting the parties discussed aspects of developing relations between the two countries.

As a member of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Sudan opened its embassy in Azerbaijan in early 1993. However, Sudan had to suspend the activity of its diplomatic mission in Baku in 1999 due to financial difficulties.

A Sudanese presidential aide and vice-president of the ruling National Congress Party Nefai Ali Nefai, visited Azerbaijan in November 2012

During the visit it was mentioned that given Azerbaijan's regional leadership and the country's active role within the OIC, the Sudanese government adopted a decision to renew the activity of its embassy in Baku.

Azerbaijan for its part welcomes this decision. The Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt is also accredited in Sudan.
