A plane with 55 Azerbaijani citizens evacuated from Cairo landed in Baku on August 19, the Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt told Trend.
On August 17, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev ordered the evacuation of Azerbaijani citizens from Egypt, due to unrest in the country.
Instructions in connection with the evacuation were given to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency
Situations of Azerbaijan.
Earlier first secretary of the Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt Elnur
Ismayilov said that the staff of the Azerbaijani embassy will
continue working in Egypt.
According to official sources, at least 850 people, including 70 police and soldiers, have been killed in the past week in Cairo in the clashes between supporters of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and the Egyptian security forces, Reuters reported referring to medical and security sources.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's Culture and Tourism Ministry urged Azerbaijani citizens not to travel to Egypt and tour companies to refrain from organizing tours to that country.
The Ministry does not recommend the Azerbaijani citizens and travel agencies to organize trips to Egypt or depart for Egypt on their own due to the unstable situation in the country, a report posted on Ministry's official website said.
"We note that all travel companies have been informed about the suspension of activities on the registration of visits to Egypt. The ministry will make an official statement when the situation in Egypt stabilizes and there are safe conditions for the arrival of foreign tourists," the report said.
