Training for border patrols held in Baku

The UNHCR office in Baku, OSCE and International Organization for Migration conducted a training for border patrols of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan`s capital of Baku.

The event entitled "Coordination, direction and aid to return processes" brought together representatives of the Cabinet, State Migration and State Frontier services, ministries of National Security, Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs.

Speakers at the opening ceremony included head of the UNHCR Azerbaijan Office Dag Sigurdson, Head of Political-Military Unit of the OSCE Office in Baku John MacGregor, and representative of the International Organization for Migration in Baku Serhan Aktorpak.

The event aimed to stress the role of international organizations in popularizing the application of documents on protection of rights of refugees, migrants and victims of human trafficking.

The training featured discussions on a range of topics, including "Mixed migration - difficulties and causes", "The role of the UNHCR in patronage of refugees and asylum seekers", "Determination of asylum seekers and the role of parties in protecting the patronage regime", and "Determination and protection of victims of human trafficking. Standards and positive experience in the OSCE region".
