First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has today met with Foreign Policy Adviser of the Prime Minister of Japan Tomohiko Taniguchi.

Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her confidence that the visit of Foreign Policy Adviser of the Prime Minister of Japan Tomohiko Taniguchi to Azerbaijan will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Noting that the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Japan was marked last year, the First Vice-President stressed that there is cooperation between the two countries based on friendship and mutual interest in all spheres.

Mehriban Aliyeva spoke about the successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan in the economic, political and humanitarian spheres.

She added that there is a great potential in these spheres, and brought to the attention of the Japanese official that she highly appreciates the activity of the State Commission for Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan.

Saying that there is a very successful cooperation in the energy sphere, Mehriban Aliyeva noted that two big companies of Japan – IMPEX and ITOCHU – have been working effectively in Azerbaijan for many years and are actively involved in the development of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields.

The First Vice-President added that the experience of Japan, which has one of the most developed economies in the world, in the fields of information, construction technologies and transportation, is of great interest.

Stressing the successful cooperation in the political and economic spheres, Mehriban Aliyeva noted the importance of further expansion of relations in the humanitarian sphere, and noted the importance of this sphere for better familiarizing the two countries' peoples with each other.

“Closer cooperation in the cultural sphere will serve for further expansion of ties,” the First Vice-President said.

She also spoke about the importance of holding mutual Days of Culture.

Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized that the development of tourism is a priority for Azerbaijan, and added that Azerbaijan can be interesting for Japanese tourists as a new destination.
