Relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are an example for the entire Islamic world, said Bekir Bozdag.

Speaking at the international conference on Islamic solidarity and Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship in Istanbul, the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister said that Turkey and Azerbaijan are ‘one nation - two states’.

Bozdag stressed that all Muslim countries should develop relations among themselves in order to become stronger.

The conference, co-organized by the Caucasus Muslims Office, State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate, Islamic History, Arts and Cultural Studies Center (IRCICA) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Marmara University, kicked off in Istanbul on September 25.

Azerbaijan`s delegation at the event include chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli, MPs, scientists and religious figures.

Addressing the event Pashazade said Islamic Solidarity plays an important role in the fight against terrorist organizations like ISIL.

“Events which are not timely and properly assessed lead to further and more serious crimes. If the genocide committed by Armenians in Khojaly town of Azerbaijan, 20 percent of whose territory is under occupation, was properly evaluated, no other genocides would have been committed against Muslims,” he noted.

Khojaly genocide, a bloody crime committed against the Azerbaijani citizens on February 26, 1992, claimed the life of 613 civilians, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly, while 1,000 people were wounded and 1,275 people were taken hostage. The fate of 150 of them remains yet unknown.

With regard to the Kurdistan Regional Government's referendum, the CMO chairman said, “Azerbaijan, as a country suffering from separatism, is resolutely against the KRG referendum on independence.”

For his part, Gurbanli, said that the organization he represents successfully promotes the idea of religious unity in order to counteract religious extremism and terror.

He noted that these efforts will be continued on a global scale.
