Moroccan minister to visit Baku

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Morocco, Nasser Bourita is expected to visit Baku in late November.

The minister plans to participate in the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission and hold talks with Azerbaijani officials on the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, a diplomatic source told Trend.

Morocco recognized independence of Azerbaijan on December 30, 1991. Diplomatic relations between two countries has been established on August 25, 1992.

The Embassy the Republic of Azerbaijan opened in Rabat in 2006, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco opened in Baku in 2009.

The governments of the two countries note the existence of favorable conditions for the development of cooperation in the economic sphere, in particular in such areas as agriculture, tourism, alternative and renewable energy.

The parties plan to intensify contacts between entrepreneurs of the two states and conduct business forums to expand trade ties.

Moroccan ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohamed Adil Ambarch earlier said that that his country considers Azerbaijan as a platform for regional cooperation, emphasizing Morocco can also play the role of a platform for the establishment of relations with African countries.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Morocco amounted to about $1.74 million in January-June 2017, increased by $566.510, or 48.2 percent, as compared to the same period of last year, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
