FM Mammadyarov receives outgoing Italian ambassador

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister of Elmar Mammadyarov has met Giampaolo Cutillo, the Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan upon the termination of his diplomatic tenure.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between two countries and progress in promotion in the fields of economy and trade was noted, Azertac reported.

Cutillo expressed his gratitude for the support provided to run his diplomatic activities and noted that he speared no efforts to enhance bilateral relations during his diplomatic mission.

Minister Mammadyarov, in turn, wished Ambassador Giampaolo Cutillo every success in his future activities.

Baku and Rome are strategic partners in the energy sector. Italy, whose scanty natural resources traditionally make the country dependent on import has been a key partner for Baku.

Italy and Azerbaijan have excellent bilateral and economic relations. Over the past eight years, Italy has remained Azerbaijan’s major trading partner, the fourth exporting country and the first customer in the energy sector.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy slight decreased , but still Italy is one of the main trade partners of Azerbaijan.

Last year the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy amounted to $1.89 billion, decreasing by 33.5 percent compared to 2015.

Currently, about 45 Italian companies are operating in Azerbaijan in insurance, banking, trade, and other areas.
