Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has concluded the mine cleaning operations in the liberated Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region.

During the 126 days of operations, ANAMA inspected 151 houses in the village and the area where the new road will be laid out, Trend reported on July 3.

ANAMA sappers discovered and defused 138,901 fragments of exploded ammunition, 74 unexploded ordnances, seven mortar shells, 25 fuzes of mortar shells, 15 unguided anti-tank rockets, four unexploded engine parts of missiles, three hand grenades, six artillery shells, nine additional detonators for mines, four grenades for grenade launcher, warhead of an artillery shell, as well as 26 anti-personnel and 140 anti-tank mines.

As a result of demining operations, an area of 2,983,738 square meters was fully cleared of mines.

Thus, ANAMA has completed the operations in Jojug Marjanli, which were launched on January 25, 2017. Territories of 50 new houses, the area allocated for the construction of 100 more houses, the area of the new road, as well as planting areas and pastures were fully cleared of unexploded ordnances.

Jojug Marjanli village was fully liberated from the Armenian occupation in April 2016, when Azerbaijani Armed Forces prevented an Armenian provocation on the contact line. To protect civilian population, the Azerbaijani army launched counter attacks and as a result, the Azerbaijani troops retook hills around the village of Talish, as well as Seysulan settlement, and also took over Leletepe hill located in the direction of Fizuli region.

In late January 2017, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to restore Jojug Marjanli. Under the order, 4 million manats were allocated for the construction of 50 private houses, a school building and relevant infrastructure at the first stage. Moreover, President signed an order on additional measures to construct the road leading to the liberated Jojug Marjanli village and allocated 4.3 million manats from the state budget for the construction of 9 km long highway in the village.
