Azerbaijan, Turkey discuss military cooperation

Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has met with his Turkish counterpart Fikri Isik in Batumi, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry reported on May 23.
During the meeting, the sides noted that the constantly developing military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey is built on fraternal and friendly relations and is fruitful for both countries.
The ministers also discussed activities aimed at contributing to ensuring of peace and stability at the regional and global level, holding of joint exercises, organizing working meetings of specialists, as well as expanding cooperation in the military-technical sphere and military education.
Azerbaijan and Turkey enjoy strong military cooperation. The two brotherly countries regularly hold joint military exercises.
Today, the Azerbaijani Army is considered the most modern army in the Caucasus. The skills and combat readiness of the Azerbaijani army are growing year by year, as the country’s Armed Forces regularly conduct military exercises. The Azerbaijani army is supplied with modern weapons and technical equipment for maintaining a high level of combat capability.
The army building process is of particular importance for Azerbaijan, as twenty percent of the country's territory is under Armenian occupation and the country is in a state of war with Armenia.
