A big village for internally displaced persons (IDPs) will be ready in the Tartar region in coming months, said Ali Hasanov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs.

He made the remark at the Board Meeting of the Committee devoted to the results of the first quarter of 2017 and future tasks.

Hasanov said that new buildings and settlements for IDPs will be constructed in 2017. “One of them is a large village being constructed in Tartar region, which will be commissioned in the near future,” he added.

Noting that the problems of refugees residing in dangerous buildings in Baku and Sumgayit will be solved soon, he said that first of all 4,000 IDP families living in most difficult conditions will be relocated.

“The process will proceed in stages, new buildings are being constructed and apartments will also be allocated in the previously constructed buildings, where IDPs will be placed,” Hasanov noted.

He said that work in this direction has started on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva’s instructions.

Hasanov further mentioned that the restoration work in the Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region is ongoing at accelerated pace.

Assessing the restoration of Jojug Marjanli as the beginning of the ‘Great Return’, Hasanov noted that President Aliyev paid a special attention to this historic event while speaking at a recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The reconstruction of the village, construction of roads and a mosque identical to the Shusha mosque, as well as other work are being performed on behalf and under the control of President Ilham Aliyev,” Hasanov noted.

The village was liberated by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the Armenian occupation in April 2016.

In late January 2017, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to restore Jojug Marjanli. Under the order, 4 million manats were allocated for the construction of 50 private houses, a school building and relevant infrastructure at the first stage.

Moreover, President signed an order on additional measures to construct the road leading to the liberated Jojug Marjanli village and allocated 4.3 million manats from the state budget for the construction of 9 km long highway in the village.
