Azerbaijan and Moldova will consider prospects of strengthening the cooperation in political, trade and economic sectors.

The relevant negotiations will be held during the visit of Moldova’s Deputy Foreign Minister Lilian Darii to Baku on February 28, the Moldovan embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend on February 22.

The sides will exchange views on intensification of cooperation both on the bilateral basis and within international organizations.

Earlier, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Filip, during his meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador Qudsi Osmanov, said that Moldova is open to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Filip also noted the importance of revival of activities of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, as well as holding the forum with participation of the two countries’ businessmen.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Moldova amounted to $4.46 million in 2016, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, and $3.96 million out of this amount accounted for the goods import from Moldova.

Both countries are members of a free trade area that were signed into law in 1994 with the participation of the CIS countries.

Within the free trade agreement, member countries are expected to eliminate export and import duties on a number of goods. An agreement was also signed on the basic principles of currency regulation and currency controls in the CIS.
