The Vietnamese Government is considering opening an embassy in Baku with a view to give additional impetus to the development of the bilateral cooperation.

A diplomatic source told Trend that the issue will be resolved in the nearest future.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang has recently hailed his country`s cooperation with Azerbaijan, voicing confidence that “historic friendship and cooperation” between Vietnam and Azerbaijan will continue to strengthen.

The president also stressed the necessity to ensure rapid development of economic and trade relations.

The diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam were established on September 23, 1992. Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Vietnam in 2013.

Currently, the bilateral relations are coordinated by the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, which is also accredited in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani side recently offered to consider the possibility of cancelling visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Vietnam totaled $17.53 million in H1 2016, which is 4.6 times more than in the same period of 2015, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation in economy, trade, science, and technology, which was established to deepen the relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, is scheduled for the late October.
