Khachmaz, Derbent to cooperate in youth affairs, sports

Azerbaijan’s Khachmaz region and the city of Derbent in Russian Republic of Dagestan will cooperate in the field of youth affairs and sports.
In this conjunction, Agahuseyn Azizov, the representative of the Youth and Sport Department of Khachmaz region visited Derbent on September 5.
A relevant protocol of intent was signed by the Youth and Sport Department of Khachmaz region and Culture, Sports, Youth Policy and Tourism Department of Derbent City Administration.
Azerbaijan and Dagestan’s city of Derbent cooperate in many areas, in particular Azerbaijan has participated in the restoration of the ancient city of Derbent.
Khachmaz, the north-west region of Azerbaijan, is a wonderful land with ancient history.
The region is very popular with its resorts and usually is crowded in pick season because thousands of tourists from all over the country and from abroad come here to take a break from working days. There are relict forests here with many ancient beeches and elms.
Khachmaz is abound with historical monuments as well. The region has a moderate, semi-desert and arid steppe climate and has a rich flora and fauna. Its area is covered with forests.
Derbent a city in the Republic of Dagestan, located on the Caspian Sea, north of the Azerbaijani border. It is the southernmost city in Russia, and it is the second-most important city of Dagestan.
Derbent is one of the most ancient “live” cities in the world. The first settlements were founded there in the early Bronze Age, at the end of 4,000 B.C. Its ancient name, “Caspian Gates”, was first mentioned in the 6th century B.C.
The city occupies the narrow gateway between the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains connecting the Eurasian steppes to the north and the Iranian Plateau to the south.
Today, Derbent is an outstanding monument of defense architecture. Its defense complex impresses us with its grandeur, mightiness and power.
It’s the oldest cultural center of Dagestan Republic, the birthplace of its spiritual and material culture, it is where art, art crafts, written language, values of Islam and other world religions spread from.
