Another Armenian fiasco in Europe

By Trend

The Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is different from other ones because it is not a contradiction or a tension between a central power, a maternal and paternal state, and a breakaway republic, but it is also an interstate conflict, Sergey Markedonov, Director of the Ethnic Relations Problems Department at the Moscow Political and Military Analysis Institute said on Feb. 27.

Markedonov made the remarks during his speech in a “Remedial secession in theory and practice: The case of Nagorno Karabakh” round table, organized by the "European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy".

According to the expert, the conflict is actually between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“It is different. For Russia, it is also different from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It is necessary to understand,” he added.

The remark contrasted with Armenian position on the issue, trying to present the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as a “war for freedom”.

“People [of Armenian origin] in Nagorno-Karabakh Oblast [region] appealed to ‘Miatsum’, a unification with ‘mother Armenia’. However, people of Azerbaijani background living around this oblast did not think about this ‘Miatsum’,” Markedonov said.

It seems that organizers of the event invited famous political analyst in an attempt to give credibility to their uninteresting small-scale discussion. However, Markedonov’s speech was quite neutral and strongly contrasted with claims and assertions that Armenian side brought to the event.

The event itself passed in an uninteresting atmosphere with complete indifference of participants, some of whom were sleeping or staring in their phones and tablets or even blank papers.

Another fruitless and meaningless effort of Armenian political circles and their supporters ended with a fiasco.
