Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in Moscow on resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Spokesperson to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev tweeted on November 16.

The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk was present at the meeting along with the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Igor Popov of the Russian Federation, Stephane Visconti of France, and Andrew Schofer of the United States of America.

Hajiyev told Trend Nov. 16 that the meeting was constructive and substantial, and specific discussions were held on all the proposals on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Azerbaijani side is satisfied with the discussions, he noted.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan always supports substantive, logical and specific negotiations to ensure the soonest settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the sustainable peace and stability in the region,” added the spokesperson.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
