MP: Criminal regime of Armenia ignores UNSC decisions

By Rashid Shirinov

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the status quo that Armenia tries to preserve in Azerbaijan’s occupied lands create big problems to the regional security and development. The presence of unresolved conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan also poses challenges for the regional neighbors.

Unfortunately, the international community and such an influential organization as the UN do not take the necessary measures for the implementation of UNSC resolutions, said Azerbaijani MP Asim Mollazade.

Mollazade made the remark when commenting on the speech of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, where he spoke about application of international sanctions against Armenia that ignores resolutions of the UN Security Council.

The Azerbaijani president has once again informed the international community about the crimes of Armenia against Azerbaijan, Mollazade told Trend.

“The thoughts that the head of state voiced in his speech are of great importance. In order to prevent the strategy Azerbaijan implements, the criminal regime of Armenia violates all norms of international law,” the MP said.

He added that this regime entirely ignores the decisions of the UN Security Council, demanding withdrawal from the occupied territories and return of refugees and IDPs.

“The organization does not take due steps to implement its tasks. In his speech, the President of Azerbaijan explained the real situation very well,” Mollazade said.

Azerbaijan and Armenia for over two decades have been locked in conflict, which emerged over Armenian territorial claims to Azerbaijan. Since the 1990s war, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

Although the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan in 1993, they have not been enforced during these 24 years. However, the UN Secirity Council hasn't taken any decisive actions in this regard yet.
