Belgian official: World community should be properly informed of Karabakh conflict

The world community should be properly informed of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and massacres committed by Armenians, said Emin Ozkara, Vice-President of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region.

Ozkara made the remarks as he met with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov in Baku on May 4.

During the meeting, Ozkara praised Azerbaijan`s development, saying President Ilham Aliyev’s successful policy lies at the heart of the country’s achievements.

Hasanov, in turn, gave detailed information about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reminding that 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories were occupied and over a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenian aggression.

Hasanov expressed regret over the OSCE Minsk Group’s failure to produce any tangible results in the conflict resolution.

“There has not been any progress in the settlement of the problem for 25 years. The four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council have not yet been implemented,” the Deputy PM stressed.

He also hailed relations between Azerbaijan and Belgium, pointing out good prospects for expanding the bilateral cooperation.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied a fifth of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Despite a ceasefire agreement achieved between the sides, Armenia regularly shells the Azerbaijani positions in an effort to tense the situation. Ignoring the calls of Azerbaijani side, as well as the international community to follow the armistice, Armenia continues its destructive actions hereby showing its disrespect to the peace process.
