More polyclinics to appear in country

More polyclinics will be established in Azerbaijan.

This issue is reflected in the draft "Concept of social and economic development of Azerbaijan in 2017 and the next three years", which has been submitted to the Parliament of the country.

The document also implies optimization of the number of Azerbaijani hospitals and their beds. It also includes establishment of a geographical database for the country's all institutions in the health sector.

The draft notes that centralized and non-centralized forms of the health system governance will be defined. Moreover, the volume of primary services in health care will be increased.

The government increased its healthcare budget more than 10 times in the past decade and the figure hit 665.3 million manats ($382.325 million) in 2014. There were built or remodeled over 566 hospitals and healthcare facilities so far. Currently, the life expectancy in Azerbaijan is 72 years for men and 76 for women.

Although the country is interested in ensuring broad access to healthcare provision with a high level of quality on one hand, on the other hand it seeks to cut healthcare spending. Cost cutting measures affect not only patient and consumer but also the pharmaceutical sector.
