Pirelli OKs compounds for Formula 1 Baku race

Formula 1's sole tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed that the Super Soft, Soft and Medium tyres will be available to drivers when the sport visits Azerbaijan for the first time in June.

The selection is identical to the trio of compounds which will be taken to the opening four Grands Prix in Australia, Bahrain, China and Russia, gpupdate.net reported.

For 2016, each driver will receive 13 dry-weather sets per Grand Prix, with Pirelli choosing two sets for the race (only one of which must be used), and a set of the softest compound, only for use in Q3.

Drivers are free to select any combination of the chosen compounds for the other 10 sets.

The 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe will be held on June 17-19 in Baku.

The Baku circuit for the F1 will have a length of six kilometers with 20 corners. The race is expected to have a high top speed, with cars reaching 340kph as they pass the pits and reach the braking zone for turn one on Neftchiler Avenue.

Baku City Circuit will see F1 cars race around the picturesque streets of downtown Baku, where the old combines with the new in breath-taking fashion, a city with its stunning Old Town – Icheri Sheher, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the magnificent Flame Towers as well as its delightful seaside promenade make it an ideal location for a race weekend. Tickets for the competition are already on sale.
